Have you ever wondered what should you invest in & save while designing your bedroom? Have you kept a separate budget for bedsheets, mattresses & pillows, etc. or you are still going for the age-old, bright & colourful, printed, big patterned bedsheets? More importantly, is it essential to splurge on these high-priced bedsheets & mattresses?

My answer is Yes. These ridiculously expensive (but justified) bedroom items are worth every penny & you must keep a separate budget while designing your bedroom. But you don’t have to splurge on everything, you can save a lot of money by buying cheaper (but qualitative) alternatives too. Read the post till the end to know what to invest in & where to save.

1. Mattress:

It is absolutely important to splurge on a good mattress because it’s a long-term investment. Though it is covered in a bedsheet, it affects your posture & quality of sleep. So it’s important to choose the correct thickness, type & firmness or softness according to your age, height & body type.

2. Headboard:

Though headboard completes the look of your bedroom, this one you can skip splurging on. As it's covered by throw pillows & accent cushions most of the time you can save on this by a no headboard look.

P.S: Check out my blog on Types of headboards to know more.

3. Bedsheet:

At the end of the day wouldn’t you want to lie peacefully in a natural & breathable bedsheet instead of getting an itchy & uncomfortable feeling? These are the qualities that justify investing in a good 600- 1000 thread count pure cotton bedsheet. They usually last for a few years so consider it as a long-term investment & splurge away.

4. Bed throw:

Aka Bed runner, is a piece of fabric that pops in a colour in your plain bedsheets. It’s a decor item which adds in the aesthetics & you can easily buy a cheaper alternative for this from the local market.

5. Pillows:

I am sure everyone knows this & agrees that it’s worth investing in a comfortable & supportive pillow for a good night’s sleep. You can choose from a variety of options like memory, orthopaedic, cotton, feather etc.

6. Accent cushions:

Again a decor item, accent pillows certainly add a character to your bedroom decor but you can skip buying branded cushions. Accent cushions come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, prints & textures & can be sourced locally. Although I would suggest buying a designer accent cushion if you have the budget.

So that’s it for now. Did you find this helpful? Have I made your buying decision easier? Let me know in the comments section below 👇
